Here we go again, eh?
Would you look at that, just over a year after he did it the first time, The Dear Leader, is at it again, showing Canadians, all across our great land (one at a time, in his case) that quitting and being anemic and lily-livered, is what he does best!
We now have indisputable evidence, that we are NOT dealing with a LEADER here, and that formally, as I write this, the "Grand Vision" for a "New Era of Conservatism" in Canada, has once again, fallen flat on his fat face & shown ONE plain, painful & simple truth; HE CAN'T LEAD WORTH SHIT, unless you're a Dubbya "Failure" Bush and/or Cheney lover!
When it comes down to it, he's just a scared bully, who talks the talk, BUT can't WALK the WALK!
You now have a few more months to get on that tread master and whip yourself into shape, so you can do that "WALK" or waddle in your case, when you have RETURNED TO DOING, WHAT WE PAY YOU TO DO; Run this nation.
We know this is a NEW concept to you, Stevo, but come on now, have you learned nothing, since we were saddled & stuck with you in 2006?
I wonder daily, how it is that we still have less than 40% of Canadians, thinking that Stephen Harper MAY NOT be a despot, when in fact, all evidence indicates, that's exactly what he is!?? His irrational decision to "Close Parliament for Business" - YET AGAIN - Is a BLATANT cover up, semi-intelligently designed to avoid analysis of the damning Afghan detainee issue. It can't be much else, as the Harperites have nearly ZERO legislative agenda ideals before them and no new ideas to put forward; Same old, SAME OLD.
The bottom-line is that Stephen Harper "The Economist" - COUGH - Apparently, has a folder containing "dreams" to return to a balanced budget, which is as light as a sheet of paper, versus going forward with the largest deficits in Canadian History, which have done little, to NOTHING, to stimulate us out of the recession, which we have been declared to be "out of" by the Bank of Canada!
Why do I say that?
Because not even a quarter of the money, intended for the stimulus projects, meant to bump us out of the recession, has ACTUALLY gone out to the communities most in need, and the time to access those funds, is running out and even then, you best pray you live in a Harper Controlled Riding, because if you don't, look forward to your potholes and crumbling infrastructure a little longer!
Just wait; the next shoe to drop will be the ALL OUT attack on Public Sector Pensions; Don't kid yourself on that score and perhaps then, we'll see the kind of backlash and public demonstrations, that have been featured around the world, in nations that have Leaders, who are far MORE competent, and miles less Extremist and Self-Loving.
If this is Canadian Tory voters hopes for a return to the days of Mulroney Majorities, or ANYTHING close, they better be plotting his overthrow, during the course of this years edition of "Closure of Parliament a la Harper" - The fractions of Progressive Conservatives, or "Real Conservatives" as I like to call them, were already whipped into a fury, the last time the Dictator pulled this, I wonder what they will do this time around, with Canadians REALLY watching this unfurl, unlike last time, when it was Pre-Christmas and nearly everyone, who didn't know what this "Leaderless" Leader, was up to, found out, only after the fact & soon that was all forgotten too.
NOT SO, THIS TIME! This time it's different, Canadians ARE paying attention and WE ARE LISTENING, but better still, watching, as our Democratic System is trampled on and hijacked, so that this party is not destroyed, by the allegations of Torture, which are not really allegations anymore, since on December 9th, the Chief of Defence Staff – Walter Natynchuk, so bravely, changed his STORY, after saying there WAS NO EVIDENCE, whilst slamming respected Canadian Diplomat Richard Colvin, who should have been sheltered by this Government, instead of DESTROYED with falsehoods, as if I recall, it was THIS Government that SWORE and WON in 2006, based on the promise of bringing "Accountability" to Canadians.
So far, we have seen NOTHING more, than a Government, which is nothing short of a FREAK SHOW and Circus; just tune into CPAC (when Government isn't Prorogued that is) and check it out for your own front row seat! It's not the Liberals, Bloc, or NDP, that REFUSE to answer questions, even ones uttered, over and over again. THOSE parties' do NOT deflect or simply LIE through their back teeth and hope for the best!
Actually, I take that back, Stephen Harper has done plenty! Let's cover some highlights shall we?
He is centralizing power in the PMO, on an unprecedented scale; defying Parliament by refusing to comply with a Commons vote, demanding the files on Afghan prisoner abuse; derailing public inquiries by a Parliamentary Committee and the Military Police Complaints Commission; muzzling/firing Civil Servants; demonizing critics; and dragging the military into the line of partisan political fire.
It's some kind of democracy we've got, going on here. Just top shelf!!!
Now, with the Government refusing a public inquiry and making this clear, in proroguing Parliament, coupled with the fact that the International Criminal Court having launched a "Preliminary" investigation into the Detainee Abuse, law experts say there is a "very real chance Canadian officials could be charged with War Crimes" - NOW THAT looks JUST FABULOUS on the old résumé, just under Peacekeepers; our old claim to fame.
Soon, Canadians traveling abroad will need to rip off their Canadian Flag, on their backpacks and sew on a US Flag, whilst the reverse has been true, for years now. When the US is looking at us as Backward, you know SOMETHING is wrong! Obama's EPA overhauls have in them; clear text, which will hurt all sectors of Canadian Industry, because the Americans have woken from their decade of Hibernation and suddenly, Canada, is the odd man out? Who would have seen that coming pre-2006!
"International law is very clear," said Mr. Dosanjh, a lawyer and former Attorney General of British Columbia.
"You need circumstantial evidence; you don't need actual knowledge of any specific allegations, or actual knowledge of torture. There was substantial knowledge of torture in Afghan jails. Every kid on the ground knew that. All of the reports, national or international, knew that."
Meanwhile, University of Ottawa law professor Errol Mendes says Mr. Dosanjh IS correct. SURPRISE!
The government's oft-repeated line that there was "no documented physical evidence of torture of Canadian-transferred detainees" is a "detour" he said, which ignores the actual requirements of the law: circumstantial evidence that a risk of torture existed.
Remember when the Government and Senior Officials swore UP & DOWN that there was "no credible reports that people detained by the Canadian Forces and transferred to Afghan officials, were being tortured"? - Yeah, that was another FAT lie!
The scope of Harper's exploitation of power, becomes clearer, when you grasp that the Harper Conservatives are replicating some of the worst practices of the Republicans, under George W. Bush and Dick Cheney - Here are some of the Top Numbers pulled in DC, during their reign of Terror, which are coincidentally almost all, in effect now, in Canada, thanks to Dictator Harper.
Consolidating executive power :: Check
Eviscerating the legislative branch :: Check
Operating under ultimate secrecy, by keeping an iron grip on information, through endless court challenges and censoring/redacting documents :: Check
Riding the coattails of the military and questioning the patriotism of political opponents :: Check
Forcing out public servants who refused to fall in line :: Check
You don't need to believe me, just ask any, of the many heads, which have rolled in Ottawa, since the Harper Era woefully started!
Here's the short list:
Peter Tinsley :: Chair of the Military Police Commission, who initiated the Afghan Prison abuse probe :: Refused a second term :: I would say that Mr. Tinsley had allot of courage, to have initiated this Probe in the first place and did NOT earn the slander & shame, bestowed upon him by the Harperites.
Paul Kennedy :: Chair of the Complaints Commission for the RCMP, who criticized the use of Tasers :: Refused a second term :: Yet the courts in BC, have just ruled that the Constables involved are NOT above the law and "could" be held responsible for their abuse of the Taser, which cost Robert Dziekowski his life & his family, untold suffering and HORROR - Not COULD be, but SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE!
Linda Keen :: Nuclear watchdog, who insisted on SAFETY at Chalk River :: Fired & Chalk River is mothballed, whilst the world and in fact, Canadians alike, depend on those isotopes, for their Cancer Survival, but hey, why would this effect Stephen Harper, he's not dying of Cancer!
Kevin Page :: Parliamentary Budget watchdog, who humiliated the Tories with several, FACTUAL revelations :: Rendered ineffective, with a cut of $1 million, from his $2.8 million budget :: As you do!
Marc Mayrand :: Chief Electoral Officer, who probed Tory election spending :: Publicly attacked & Humiliated in the process, not to mention his credibility put in question, forever!
Louise Arbour :: UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, who dared pass judgment on both the United States & Israel :: Refused support for a second term & a VERY public haul over the coals :: So much for FREE SPEECH!
Jean-Guy Fleury :: Chair of the Immigration & Refugee Board, who opposed the Tory politicization of appointments to the Tribunal :: Hounded, Beleaguered, Intimidated and Thwarted into quitting :: Unbelievable
I reject what I said previously, (much like the Harper Tory's do) this is NOT despotism we are dealing with here; It's FAR worse and FAR more dangerous to a Free and Progressive Nation, such as ours!
"When you add up all that this regime has done, it's truly scary," says Gar Pardy, former head of the foreign ministry's consular services.
Even with all this being CRYSTAL CLEAR to me, and anyone else, with half a brain cell, this DISGRACE of a GG, granted this shady and tyrannical PM; the nastiest, most Regressive & Oppressive "Leader" we have ever had, in our HISTORY, yet another proroguing of Parliament; And why NOT, when your in BED with the guy!
It seems to be lost on the GG, that SHE has a duty to CANADIANS first and foremost, not to this status quo, hide & seek playing, excuse of a Prime Minister.
Has it not dawned on you, Miss GG of the Year, that Harper prefers to lead in secret? Or are you TOO MUCH in your little Royal BUBBLE, to notice?
He's effectively stripping Canada, of its technological leadership and economic strength, by allowing the sell-off of Nortel to foreign interests, abandoning the medical isotope business, that the world has depended upon us, for decades & a crowning achievement this year, creating such a massive deficit, that he's placed our Health Care System, in the direct line of fire, along with Federal Governance, as Fed Bucks will have to go towards paying down the debt, leaving Provinces to pick up the tab, even more than they EVER have, in our history.
This "so-called" Tory, who's really a Reformer & Canadian Alliance Cowboy, has spent like a Drunk Sailor and more so, than ALL the Liberal Governments, he loathes so much! The irony!
But all that doesn't matter to Jean, evidently, as instead of flat-out refusing this most recent request and thereby not repeating her mistake from a year ago, when she got rolled by The Dear Leader the 1st time, she fell right back into the trap, and willingly at that.
The last time we did this, most Canadians were UNAWARE that someone called Kevin Lynch, who happens to be the Clerk of the Privy Council, was present in the room with PM & GG. That's a SLIGHT problem in my book, as "encounters" between the GG and the PM, are privileged. Especially when the matter is THIS URGENT & requires SUCH Constitutional knowhow. The privileged thing is no different from our Queen and the British PM. But clearly, Jean doesn't have the FIRST clue, is weak-willed, not to mention, a complete and utter PUSHOVER or doormat, which ever strikes your fancy more!
Amazingly, at that meeting, our Rep to the Queen and "former Separatist" was actually going between Constitutional Advisers and Harper, the "Dictator Adviser". The GG, like the Queen, is NEVER duty-bound to take the PM's advice, only that which he or she deems appropriate to our Parliamentary system and even that is only to be taken under advisement.
After that, instead of granting the 1st Prorogue, she should have summoned Opposition Leader Stéphane Dion, and maybe even the rest of those who signed the Coalition Document, to brief her on their coalition agreement.
Correction, all those who signed, EXCEPT the Susceptible, Self-styled and Undemocratically positioned & intellectually challenged, Michael Ignatieff, who should NEVER have signed that document, only to stab it, and all those concerned, right in the back. Yet another reason, as if we needed yet another, that Michael Ignatieff CANNOT be trusted to govern our nation.
Do not be fooled folks; Ignatieff is no different from the power hungry, Harper. Both men share that same strand of DNA; they lust after the complete control of our population and the ultimate job, yet do NOTHING, to deserve it.
Had our deluded Governor General followed protocol, for such a Constitutional situation, she would have advised the PM to seek a vote of confidence. If he felt that Confidence was not there, and it WASN'T, or the Coalition would never have sprung up in the first place, Harper could still have selected John Baird, Peter MacKey or Jim Prentice, amongst others, who might have carried the Confidence of the House.
Failing both, Jean still had the option to turn to the Opposition, which represented over 60% of Canadians, who's voices were entirely ignored, and have allowed them to - AT LEAST - demonstrate that they could muster the confidence of the House, as they claimed, at the time.
Yet in retrospect, Jean FAILED, wretchedly in her duties, by deciding the future of the Harper Government, behind closed doors, as opposed to a decision, made in the spirit of openness and in an egalitarian fashion, by the elected representatives of our nation; After all, that's WHY we elect politicians, is it NOT?
Reality has a funny way of smacking us right in the face, but it seems Jean is NOT one of us & is utterly ignorant to the will of Canadians and reality itself! What she felt was a correct calculation the first time around, turned out to be imperfect, or rotten, to the core & this has been established, YET AGAIN, by this misguided woman, deciding unilaterally AGAIN, that Stephen Harper can use the GG and Government as a whole, to do what he pleases, when he pleases. Much like a self-service loo!
In my 30 years, I've never seen a PM so hell-bent on being out of control, whilst being such a control freak, all at the same time.
It's a really nauseous & perverse combination.
A long-time, wet dream of Harper's has been to have Canada, devolve to the Provinces. But with a Minority, Parliament has always been the "problem". So with that being the case, he's reverted to abusing his powers instead, since day one, to render impotent, Parliament and Centralize the effective governance and governing, of Canada, all to himself and his Corporate cronies' and Party Hacks; pretty much like a Dictatorship, Centralizes all, to itself.
What most don't get, is that proroguing only gives the Dictator EVEN MORE POWER, to change our country behind HIS, closed door.
Fascinatingly, it's Liberal Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who began the Transfer of Power, from the elected Parliament, to the unelected PMO.
What's scarier than that, is the fact that Canadians seem unable to retain anything from their history class, and in turn, their indifference, manifests itself into COMPLETE political ignorance; It also doesn't help having a media, that feeds us nothing but rubbish, instead of the matters which really hit home, like perhaps the grand total of what the last proroguing cost our Nation, our Economy and how much this newest one will cost, beyond the 32 bills, he's killed and the salaries of all MP's, including the evil one himself, which will continued to be paid.
As a Taxpayer I say if this PM wants to prorogue Parliament, then he should do so at lost wages, for that entire time frame, and the same counts for ALL other MP's. I've never heard of a Canadian that can prorogue their work, and actually keep their JOB! Why should it be any different for Stevo?
If a wage block was in effect for such periods, there would be FAR MORE incentive, to prevent a PM abusing power, by Proroguing a Parliament, that if anything, needed to GET BACK TO WORK for Canadians again, not enjoy a LONGER break, at our expense and at the expense of the functionality of our Nation.
Last year, the bully Steve was scared, so he came running to you, and when you should have asked for his resignation, per our Constitution and YOUR obligations, you granted him the first Prorogue, because the "Scary Coalition" of 60% PLUS Canadians, was looming heavy over the obese PM and he was at major risk of losing his standing (as fattest PM Ever) as Party Dictator; the Dear Leader, who won't even let his own Cabinet Minister's do their job.
The result? For MONTHS on end our Democracy was LITERALLY put on HOLD, by YOU and this dodgy PM, so that he could save his skin and prevent himself being toppled. How shameful! There should be a Commission or Inquiry into your WRONGDOING, when in fact you should have seen the writing on the wall…This PM and his party, under his full control, have not made parliament work and had NO INTEREST in making it work, not then, and NOT NOW!
Then fast forward to yesterday and suddenly, it's enough for the Dear Leader, to call from his crumbling, termite and rat infested house, which is appropriate for the man, and suddenly, whoops, there goes Democracy again! Government is now prorogued, because Steve Harper picked up a bloody phone, and called your sorry ass, and of course, you just couldn't resist!
You rebel you!
Congratulations are in order, for this years effort to keep this concealed, for as long as possible, from Canadians, who had to turn to the likes of Twitter, to know if their Government was still functioning or not! Yup, no hoard of media at the GG's this year, instead, the media was busy with Team Canada's Selection for the Olympics, which is the same time, as Harper placed the call, in what can only be described as STEALTH secrecy, as is the preferred method of Harper; Censor, Hide and Keep the facts from Canadians, fuck accountability! That was so 2006!
Last year, the media was salivating at the doorsteps of a freezing Rideau Hall, awaiting the White as Snow, Dear Leader, explaining to Canadians - CORRECTION - lying to us, as to why this was necessary. Naturally, this time around, he couldn't explain himself, nor was their a REAL justifiable reason, or does he think we will BUY that he was worried about Canada's Reputation around the world, with the Detainee matter blowing up, right before and/or during the Vancouver Games? THATS TOTAL BS, full stop!
IT'S WAY TOO LATE FOR THAT!
We are already mocked around the globe, in case your blind and deaf, for being the single sleaziest nation in the world, in terms of sustainability and the environment; a title I personally find offensive, revolting & hugely embarrassing.
We once stood for Peacekeeping and for having been one of the first nations to sign onto the Kyoto Accord; the same Accord Harper used to start firewood, at his new digs, in November/December of 2006.
If this second proroguing wasn't SO PATHETIC, and illegitimate, it would be funny, but what is utterly demoralizing and makes for even more of a Majority of Canadians, who are now SEETHING at this news, is that YOU, the GG, are once again, an accomplice to this PM, seizing our Democracy, in Record Order, setting records in the process and the SINGLE solitary reason for this happening again, is because suddenly, the Harper Conservative Dictatorial machine, or War Department, in their little "War Room" - Are shaking in their Booties, over this Detainee Abuse Scandal, which a LARGE portion of Canadians, actually care about, unlike what this FARCE of a PM thinks.
It is reported that back in the 19th and 20th Centuries, Proroguing was "all the rage" - But when you study the fundamental reasons, such Prorogues happened, even back then, and compare those to Harper's reason, the first time (and failure to provide Canadians, ANY reason AT ALL this time) Canadians would see real quick, that there is a paramount difference between a Prorogue and a Harper Prorogue. Like almost all things he touches, we the people, who the PM answers to, give him an inch, and he takes 1000 miles, hands down, each and every time.
For anyone who believes that our government should be honest, open and accountable, this is a travesty.
Ironically, I can remember when Mr. Harper, then "Leader" of the Official Opposition, lambasting the Chrétien government's plans to prorogue Parliament back in 2003, to prevent the Auditor-General from reporting on possible abuse of the Sponsorship Program in Quebec.
"The government will prorogue the House so that it will not be held accountable for its shameful record," Mr. Harper proclaimed with his usual, overboard thunder.
But that was THEN & THIS is NOW - Since, Harper has been diagnosed with amnesia and laundry list of other mental instabilities.
My question is, and it seems to be on the mind of MANY on-line; since when, has torture been OK Mr. Harper?
Canadians are DISGUSTED at the thought of our fine soldiers EVER having been placed in a situation, whereby, a Detainee MIGHT or would get tortured. We have NEVER been an "Eye for an Eye" kind of nation and we have ALWAYS respected our International obligations, especially when it pertains to the Geneva Convention.
Just because you don't give a coon shit, does NOT COME CLOSE, TO MEANING, WE DON'T!
THESE ACTS ARE COMMITTED IN OUR NAME, BY THIS GOVERNMENT, ABROAD, via our Forces.
Stephen Harper, you have BLOOD on your hands and you know it, hence the phone call to the GG, right?
Perhaps next year, you can make it even LESS official and casual and by announcing you have prorogued our Democracy, via your Twitter account, to hers! It's all the rage these days! Haven't you heard?
Personally, I think STEVO, has been reading too much out of the book, of ditsy & socially retarded, Sarah Palin! What do you think? Make your voice known in my poll!
Steve, she went "Rogue" which has NOTHING to do, with YOU Pro ROGUE ing! PUUULEEEZE! Get a LIFE, will you?
What I truly can't wait for, is the next Election and the Leaders Debates and how this disgrace of a PM, will sink in his own, homemade quicksand. It will be EPIC to see how he plans to answer such hard questions like; How do you intend on running your next campaign, because the odds that Queen Ignatieff will be dethroned, are HIGH and when the electorate asks you, why you felt it necessary, to lie to Canadians the first time around, causing Canadians to buy your lies, hook, line and sinker, because in their American-television-fuelled ignorance, they bought your outright lie, that coalitions are illegal.
They are not. A refresher course if you disagree Mr. Harper: Coalition governments are a legitimate form of government in Canada & around the world; READ A BOOK!
How do you intend on defending your election promises, that you ARE tough on Crime, after killing all those Anti-Crime Bills, because the Detainee Abuse Scandal, which you are covering up, is a wee bit too RED HOT for you?
Can you even FATHOM the EXTREME waste of Taxpayer TIME & MONEY, cancelling 32 bills results in, or is that TOTALLY irrelevant to you, and your sidekick, the always "Chic" GG, who's clearly too busy with her looks and the vanity that that entails, either that, or looking plain trailer, when handing out Orders of Canada, wearing some silly hear band, that even a 15 year old girl would find "Ewww"!
Reporters and talk radio show pundits, sometimes talk about how they like our politicians, how they're decent people, but I wonder why these "decent people" are doing so little for our country and so much more, for feeding their own power needs?
When will these tools & fools UNDERSTAND that our children's future is NOT up to them, to wreck and mortgage When will they get, that their actions, will come with consequences, as for each action, there is an equal reaction; perhaps not immediately, but somewhere down the line, both of you will pay a high price for the unmoral and unethical acts you indulged during your privileged time in Office; Remember that, YOU are Privileged, because we ALLOW you to be and MADE YOU TO BE.
Have you lost the concept of that? I think so! It's a shame for your legacies. As a junior politician, I'd rather have never served in Office, than pretend to be a Leader in our time and for our Communities, so many of which are in desperate need, whilst you the PM, give Billions away to the very companies that financed your rise to power; Big Oil. Yet another parallel you have in common with the 21st Century's freest War Criminal, the ever stupid, now "Motivational Speaker" Georgie Boy.
I wonder how motivated Iraqi Mothers feel about their Children and Husbands being DEAD or maimed. The "Body Count" is ever escalating and sits at over 103,000 civilian deaths.
And this is what you, Stephen Joseph Harper, aspire to be. Laureen should be running the opposite direction; how she can stand being with such a devious person, is unbelievable, considering she is such a great & decent person.
And YOU, Michaëlle Jean, STANDBY and watch this go on and the suffering continue. For that, you should truly feel SHAME and DISGRACE.
Stephen Harper & Michaëlle Jean; Treating Parliament as if it's their own personal plaything, since 2008
A thing they can dismiss at THEIR leisure, whilst the rest of Canada & the world goes on working…. there is NO legitimate reason for any of it But informed Canadians already know this; It's a case of re-educating the FEW supporters these clowns still have.
In the final analysis, here is the list, of all the Bills, that Stephen Harper, powered by Michaëlle Jean, are now responsible for destroying!
